Media Tablets Can be as Popular as Smartphones in the Future

Today’s technology has been developing really rapidly and it influences people ‘s expectation of the new and advanced inventions such as laptops, smartphones, and etc.  Media tablets have become a new trend for many computer users. This phenomenon was started when Apple announced their new invention called iPad to public. According to IDC, it is predicted that there would be over 46 million media tablets will be expected to ship in 2014.

Since iPad release, there is a multiple of annual growth rate of 57.4%. This growth rate is a calculation of the media tablets shipped this year that reach 7.6 million tablets include other media tablets than iPad that are new Archos 7 Home Tablet, a tablet from Intel, and a tablet from team of Google and Verizon.

Based on IDC’s definition of a media tablet, there are several specifications that should come with a media tablet including 7-inch to 12-inch display, ARM processor powered, lighter operating system like Google’s Android or Apple’s iPhone in many iPhone smartphones. This media tablet is different from the tablet PCs, for example the Archos 9 that runs full PC operating systems and brings x86 processors as its power. All of the media tablets are using stylus or finger to navigate, so you will find only built-in hardware keyboards.

The great attraction of media tablets will also be boosted with the availability of third-party applications. The variety and amount of the applications will serve you with contents and services that may drive the consumers’ demands. IDC hoped that the media tablets will be more optimized with the availability of a variety of applications. Thus, the media tablets should become a nice-to-have device and as necessity as smartphones for many consumers in the future.

Based on Display Search’s report on ‘2010 Touch Panel Market Analysis,’ another marvelous thing that brings the media tablets to be more popular nowadays is that it comes with touchscreen interface. This is another key point why many consumers are attracted to these new devices. As you can see, the smartphones that are equipped with touchscreen interface capability also have built the specific market with consumers that opt for these touchscreen-enabled devices.

Tracing back to last year’s record, the touchscreen reached 606 million sale, it means there was a 29% increase from 2008. Besides, the recent growth has been driven by the increase of mobile phones or smartphones, MP3 players, and GPS unit demands. Among those demands, mobile phones became the most potential factor since there were 376 million touchscreen devices shipped in 2009. Additionally, according to DisplaySearch it seems that PCs, Netbooks, and media tablets may achieve the great boost as well.
