Gathering information from Verizon Wireless’s Chief Operating officer, John Stratton, through Tuesday interview, the carrier is about to distribute a smartphone from Motorola brand to run on Verizon’s new 4G network. From this interview, it is found out that the carrier has already identified a phone company to conduct close watch over the launch as well as represent a vital vote of confidence in Motorola.
The carrier which is a joint venture of Verizon Communication Inc. and Vodaphone Group PLC, Verizon Wireless released its high-speed, fourth-generation network at the beginning of this month but hasn’t introduced any mobile phones that can make use it. This network uses a technology called Long-Term Evolution and it offers wireless internet connection that is claimed as fast as land-based cable modems or fiber optic technology.
Earlier, Motorola stated that the company will make devices that work on LTE networks next year, but then they didn’t give specific information about the exact timing or distribution of those devices. Unfortunately, the information about the timing, named, and price of the new handset couldn’t be obtained.
The Verizon Communications President, Lowell McAdam, informed during a wireless technology conference in October that there will be half a dozen smartphones and tables compatible with LTE on display at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. The handsets are hoped to be available in store in the first half in 2011.
Motorola and Verizon Wireless had started the close relationship based on mutual support of Android operating system over the past two years. Even Motorola only makes Android-based smartphone today. On the contrary, there are investors who feel anxious that if Verizon gets the iPhone early next year, it may leave Motorola exposed.
As the country’s largest wireless carrier, Verizon had chosen several Motorola smartphones to feature in its current Droid lineup. According to Verizon, these smartphones will become the high-end of its Android slate to be supported with additional marketing efforts.
As has been said by Mr. Stratton, the collaboration between Verizon and Motorola had made Motorola a very important partner for the New York based company. He explained that these two companies have worked out a very good job in supporting our business over last 13 months. Also, they have worked their way up into almost a selected vendor by driving Verizon’s Droid strategy. It is said that Verizon Wireless started selling another Motorola smartphone, Droid Pro, into the mainstream market this fall.
