Quoting news from Fortune magazine, Apple’s iPhone will come with Verizon in the early of next year. With the spreading rumor of Verizon Wireless carrying Apple’s iPhone, it is likely Apple is about to break the exclusive lock with AT&T soon.
According to Sarah Ellison through the article in the magazine, Verizon iPhone will be launched in early 2011 which also means it is what people has been familiar about. Fortune magazine also keeps up the latest information through Wall Street Journal and The New York Times in October news which stated that a Verizon iPhone’s will emerge within the upcoming few months. This news has spread by unnamed sources.
Still according to Fortune, Verizon confirmed that the company is going to release their own version of iPhone 4 which will run on Verizon’s CDMA-based 3G network. However, the device is designed without the ability to enable working outside United States, it means the phone possibly will not carry a particular chip that can make it into a “world phone.”
Furthermore, there is other rumors appear that Apple is on its effort to work on a special SIM card for the iPhone. This special SIM card seems like allowing customers to choose their own carrier at the time they buy the device. And this rumor is strengthened with another rumor written in tech blog GigOm saying that Apple has chosen Gamalto to collaborate on the SIM cards.
To be more specific, special SIM card from Apple points out that user’s contract will also be with Apple, as opposed to a carrier. An analyst with Technology Business Research, Ken Hyers, said through eWEEK that customers can go to an Apple store and check things out, and carry on through activation at the Genius Bar, instead of putting a trial to do it through Web. He added, if Apple’s plan is working in US, this could become a real game changer.
AT&T’s reaction over this rumor delivers the fact that the company is prepared to lose its exclusive grip on iPhone. The carrier wrote through Securities and Exchange Commission that the offering a wide variety of handsets reduces the dependence on any single handset at those products evolve. The company also added, the offering of a number of attractive devices on an exclusive basis distinguish AT&T from their competitors.
It should come into conclusion that Apple’s plan refers to the dependence on any single handset, although the company keeps silent about this rumor, both Verizon and AT&T are frankly open about it.
